Since nothing was breaking on the West End this drizzly Sunday, we jumped on our bikes and cruised the Boardwalk to the East End, where we were surprised to come upon a bike-sharing station at Edwards Blvd. It turned out it belongs to Decobike, a company that wants to launch a rental and sharing program similar to the one it runs in Miami (and that exists in many cities in Europe).
Decobike envisions a fleet of 400 bikes stationed at 25 kiosks for Long Beach. But the city’s government is not so sure. The Long Beach Patch reports that the City Council has voted to table a proposal for a Decobike’s program while it dicusses issues like using local bike shops to maintain the Decobike fleet, expanding bike lanes, and other contract and business stuff.
In the meantime, though, Decobike is offering free rides on the 4th on the Boardwalk at Edwards.
